I was barely 7 in 1975, but vividly remember "stay alive for '75." My mom is in her late 70's and still in, but none of her children are. In that regard she was a fabulous mother, but a lousy witness. Her unbelieving mate's quiet rejection was louder and more powerful than her heavy-duty attempts at brainwashing. Despite the failure of the Great Tribulation to manifest itself in the 70s or 80s, the doctrinal generation change in the 90s, my mother STILL believes that it's gonna happen, any second. When she has to get new tires for her car-those will be the last she ever needs to get. When she has to get new eye-glasses, she is certain those are the last she will ever need to get. She has lived this way for 50 years, converting, on that promise, the displaced and disenfranchised fringies she manages to find in every nook and cranny of her goings-on. Of course Great Britain's vote to leave the European Union is the latest sign that the GT is imminent. When I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s, the publisher count was always well above 100 in the congregation. Now it's only about 47. As my mother says, without any sadness, they are dying off.

The 1975 Generation---are they still around?
by minimus ini was raised as a jw and 1975 expectations were pretty intense.
as i recall, most people did not leave after the failed expectations but many s l o w e d down.
now, i think most of the 1975 witnesses are gone or barely in.. is the older generation still around in the kingdom halls or are they much gone?.

Very obvious sexism too. Very upsetting to see that the "womenfolk" of the second family were completely incompetent without their "headship," only to be saved when a "brother" arrived….
I still have no idea why the women in that cult consent to be ridiculed openly like that and actively participate in the process.
Disgusting.

Now Even JW Men Are Going To Die At The Big A
by OneFingerSalute inso this weekend there was a part about not following jesus at a distance.
the speaker made a big point of stating that any baptized jw male who was not either appointed ms/elder, or at the very least "reaching out" actively, was in fact following jesus at a distance.
he said that the only way to live through the big a was to follow jesus closely.

I'm just astonished how the WTBTS has changed so dramatically these last five years. My elderly, arthritis stricken mother who never would even touch a computer until 2 years ago now has internet, a laptop, email, and an iPad! She actually pays someone (I'm assuming in her congregation) for lessons on how to use them. But what shocks me and depresses me the most is that she can watch the entire district convention at home, in comfort, at no expense, but instead will drive herself (and several of her misfit "friends" who really just use her) two hours each way-each day, pay for all the gas, toll roads, and parking, and then hand over more than the suggested donation-and feel all closer to Jehovah for the hardship. I'm sick to my stomach--so disturbed by the existence of the youtube videos of conventions and assemblies (and that they all still spend millions of dollars to attend these things) that I actually had something to share. -

fastJehu,
You are probably right. I guess whomever started circulating this drivel is actually an unwitting apostate.
And now the giddy rank and file are spreading a great falsehood amongst their brothers and sisters.
I still think it's funy that the twit that started this called it 100 years of texts, when it is actually 101. They always have had issues with what to do with that year they start with...

So I don't know what's funnier:
That this is making its way around the JW email circuits...
That this seems to be "celebrating" their redundancy...
That this seems to point out it's been 100 years since 1914...
Or that someone cannot count. This is 101 years of Year's texts (only 100 texts, but 101 years). (2014's text being the same as 1914's.)
Maybe they won't ever have to write a new Year's text. Will 2015 be "Are you able to drink of My cup?" (Oh they can't seem to count that number, either...)
I searched to see if this was already posted and didn't see it, but if it was, sorry for the duplication. And the formatting. I copied this from an email I intercepted.

I D'Aed in 1987 and began teaching high school in 1992. I've had a number of JWs and it never was an issue, some knew. Most did not. One from about 8 years ago came out to our table at the restaurant where she works to sing happy birthday to someone a few weeks ago. She was borderline when she was in my class (borderline jw that is, decent enough student), but the restaurant scene is now one of my "happy places."
Interesting note, though-if a JW parent requested to have a their kid removed from a DF'ed teacher's class, for any reason relating to the DF or religion, in a public school in the United States, the school administration cannot do it. It would violate the teacher's First Amendment rights. A JW teacher would not be able to have a DFed student removed from her class for the same reason. Doesn't matter if "minors are involved." If a public school administrator did move a student from the class for that reason, he or she could get in a whole lot of really bad trouble if the non-JW found out and decided to take legal action for violation of her civil rights.

Legally speaking, you could face some liability for making these things public. Just because you redact the names and addresses won't relieve you of this liability, if individuals could still be recognized by the details. It could be worse if anything you published was false, and you knew, or if you were making public some private information about individuals, or if the information you were putting out there tended to show them in a false light.
As "anonymous" as the internet seems, it's not anonymous at all with subpoenas, it is pretty hard to guarantee anonymity of the poster. Just ask the defendant on a case I'm working on right now. Domainsbyproxy.com spilled its guts within days of the subpoena. Didn't even bother notify the consumer (defendant) before revealing her identity, address, phone number, IP addresses, all her phone calls to the hosting service, and even her entire credit card number and its security codes to plaintiff's legal team (me).
Legitmate legal advice aside, we love any dirty, juicy, damning trash we can get our hands on. What's taking you so long?

If the Organization isn't already saying this, they will soon: Armageddon has come and gone. We are living in a "spiritual paradise" now!

How do you feel when you see groups of Jehovah's Witnesses in the ministry?
by nicolaou inregret, anger, frustration?
how about sadness, sorrow, sympathy, understanding, even compassion!.
it can be quite confusing at times, especially if some of those witnesses were your friends.

I get to see them on their coffee breaks at a little cafe I go to. It is always such an unusual site: Several women of varying ages dressed in tacky or frumpy ill-fitting outfits (whatever happened to the rule about dressing like the "business community") and usually one man, all decked out in a well-tailored (but not expensive) suit, "holding court" with the gals. My friend always says something like, "oh, a field trip from the compound, today, I see..."
I know it's wrong (I mean technically incorrect), but it's still funny as hell when she lets one of her Big Love remarks roll around the elder and his "harem."
